On August 19, the U.S. will begin to levy 50% tariffs on Canadian exports of cars, dairy, alcohol among other products. The White House said these higher tariff rates come in response to Canada’s discriminatory treatment of U.S. products. The move also coincides with ongoing USMCA trade negotiations and a broader effort to rebuild Trump’s global tariff regime previously struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court. CNBC’s Megan Cassella reports.
