Rhea Ripley has been away from WWE programming for the last several weeks due to an injury. Mami has now provided an update on her situation, and things are not looking good for those who were hoping for her return soon.

Rhea was last seen in action in June, during the company’s Summer Tour. She suffered a knee injury during that time and has been out of action since then. SmackDown, meanwhile, has a new women’s champion as Chelsea Green was crowned the interim WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam. However, it appears that the interim tag may soon be removed.

Rhea Ripley provided an update on her injury on X, noting that she had to undergo surgery for her knee. Mami added that hopefully she won’t need to go under the knife once more:

“Life update. After just under 14 year in wrestling and doing sports my entire life… It’s caught up to me. Surgery was never a first option for me, but it got to the point that it was needed…First one down…Hopefully no more…I’ve survived, now it’s time to start thriving again so I can get back to what I love to do! See you all down the road.”

Rhea Ripley may be stripped of the WWE Women’s Championship

While WWE only crowned an interim champion at SummerSlam, things could change now given that Rhea Ripley may be out of action for the foreseeable future. This could be the second time Mami has had to relinquish a title due to an injury.

Rhea won the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 42, where she defeated Jade Cargill. She only defended the title once, at Clash in Italy against Cargill in a rematch.

The Eradicator also had to relinquish the Women’s World Championship in 2024 after suffering an injury. However, she got the title back from Liv Morgan a few months after returning. It looks like Mami may have to go down the same path again if she’s indeed ruled out of action for a long time.
