The central government said on Friday that its gross direct tax collections stood at a provisional Rs 27,02,974 crore during the financial year 2024-25, which ended on March 31, 2025. That marked an increase of 15.6 per cent over its collections—direct taxes include income tax and corporate tax—over its kitty the previous year.
Its net collections rose 13.6 per cent to a provisional Rs 22,26,231 crore, according to an official notification.
Direct tax refunds—or the return of excess money paid by income tax assesses compared to their actual dues—jumped 26 per cent to Rs 4,76,743 crore. In FY24, the actual refunds were recorded at Rs 3,78,255 crore.

Out of the net collections of Rs 22,26,231 crore, Rs 9,86,719 crore was collected as corporate tax, Rs 11,82,875 crore as non-corporate tax (included taxes paid by entities such as individuals and Hindu Undivided Families), and Rs 53,296 crore as securities transaction tax (STT), according to the notification.
