Trump trade talks help S&P 500 hit new record, Dow jumps over 400 points

U.S. stocks reached an all-time high on Friday, with the S&P 500 rising by half a percentage point to surpass its previous record set in February. This surge signals a recovery from a springtime decline caused by uncertainties surrounding the Trump administration’s trade policies. Stocks finished higher on Friday after President Donald Trump announced the U.S. is ending trade talks with Canada.

“They are obviously copying the European Union, which has done the same thing, and is currently under discussion with us, also. Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
