Tom Holland is currently starring in one of the year’s biggest movies, The Odyssey, with another potential blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, just a few days away. That means plenty of time on the promotional circuit, but these are press tours Holland can actually enjoy. During a recent appearance on the Dish Podcast, the actor said he’s been “absolutely loving” promoting both films because he’s genuinely proud of them—something he admits hasn’t always been true of the projects he’s been asked to sell.
“When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” Holland explained. “Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really feel like people should go see it.“
He continued, “I’ve had experiences before when people say, like, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ‘You shouldn’t, because it’s shit.’“
Holland didn’t name the specific films he was thinking of, but like most actors, he’s had his share of sub-par movies. But with The Odyssey and Brand New Day, “It’s felt really like a bit of a victory lap, to be honest. I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m super proud of both of the films.“
The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is now playing in theaters. Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus (Matt Damon) and Penelope (Anne Hathaway).
The film has already become a massive success, grossing $652 million worldwide after less than two weeks of release. That’s very impressive, especially as the sword-and-sandal adventure is nearly three hours long and rated R. Be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day
As for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the anticipation is enormous. Early projections point to a $180 million to $190 million domestic opening, but others have gone significantly higher. Anyway you slice it, this is going to be a big one; it’s just a matter of how big.
Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31.
