Another round of WSL action is complete as gameweek six took place on Sunday.

Arsenal travelled to face Manchester United and played out a 1-1 draw, with goals from Alessia Russo and Melvine Malard. Elsewhere, Manchester City, Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur all picked up victories.

City remain top of the table by a point, having played a game more than nearest rivals Chelsea, while Brighton have edged into the top three. Manchester United are fourth and Arsenal sit fifth. Aston Villa, West Ham and Everton are still at the bottom end of the table after each suffering another defeat.

90min have ranked the top five players from the WSL over the weekend…

It wasn’t the three points Arsenal would have hoped for against Manchester United after outplaying the hosts for much of the game, but Alessia Russo did fire the Gunners in front against her former club shortly after the hour mark. She had also gone close twice in the first half and was a handful.

The point keeps Arsenal within touching distance of the European places, but there is significant work to do if they’re to truly push on. Not least because Brighton have emerged as such a strong contender this season.

Another week, another win for Sonia Bompastor’s Chelsea. After spending the international break with England on the bench, it took Aggie Beever-Jones less than 15 minutes to get on the scoresheet against Everton.

The 21-year-old rose highest to meet a looped cross from Kadeisha Buchanan in the first half at Goodison Park. It was a fantastic header to score the opener, and a strong performance overall from the forward.

Brighton got back to winning ways this week after the draw against Manchester United before the international break. Once again, Nikita Parris was the goalscorer for the Seagulls as they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City.

The win catapulted them into the top three of the WSL standings, two points clear of United, who have played a game less. If the likes of Parris can remain consistent, an unexpected battle for Champions League football could well be on the cards this season.

Liverpool picked up their second win of the season away at Aston Villa this gameweek, and wing-back Taylor Hinds was at the centre of the victory. The Reds’ captain scored twice in the first half to give the visitors a deserved lead at the break, and it was enough to secure a 2-1 victory after Villa attempted a second half comeback.

Both goals were scored from a late run into the box at the far post. Dangerous crosses weren’t dealt with by the Villa defence and Hinds was there to slot the ball home on two occasions.

Manchester City’s winning run continued on Sunday with a comfortable 3-0 triumph over Crystal Palace. The newly-promoted side have caused a few teams problems in recent weeks, so this was by no means a straightforward game before kick off.

Jess Park opened the scoring before half time, and later set up Khadija Shaw for the third with less than 20 minutes left to play. A strong, complete performance from the young midfielder at Selhurst Park.
