Aria Protocol, the tokenisation platform built on the IP-focused layer-1 blockchain, Story, has raised a combined $15 million from seed and strategic rounds completed last month. Polychain Capital and Neoclassic Capital co-led the seed round, with Story Protocol Foundation and unnamed backers across crypto, IP, and entertainment sectors participating in the strategic round.

According to the announcement, the fundraising was structured as equity with token warrants and values Aria at $50 million. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate the development of its IP tokenisation platform, with the initial focus centered on tokenising music. 

Aria is turning music royalties into tradable tokens, as it looks to make the industry more accessible. The company also plans to issue a native token in the future.

Commenting on the announcement, Aria co-founder and chief IP officer David Kostiner told The Block: “We view this approach as a reflection of Aria’s dual identity; both as an IP and licensing-focused tech company, and as a tokenized infrastructure layer for real-world assets.”

Describing Aria’s initial focus on tokenising music, Kostiner said: “Historically, music royalties and IP ownership have been notoriously illiquid, difficult to access, and restricted to private equity investors and insiders with the legal and financial firepower to access and navigate exclusive relationships.”

The company’s first IP token, Aria Premier Launch (APL), launched in February and features tokenised royalties of songs from the likes of Justin Bieber, BTS, and Miley Cyrus.

Aria used $10.95 million raised on the StakeStone LiquidityPad platform to acquire the rights to the songs. Holders of APL tokens “gain exposure to real-world music royalties, which unlocks a yield-bearing instrument from what was once an inaccessible and highly gated asset class,” Kostiner said.
