We are now learning, according to reports from the New York City Police Department, that a device deployed during dueling demonstrations outside Grace Mansion, the official residence of the New York City mayor, has been found to be an improvised explosive device. This comes after violence erupted outside the mayor’s residence when more than 100 people gathered for dueling protests around on Saturday. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Jason Beeferman, a New York State politics reporter at POLITICO, as we learn more about what led up to the unrest.
On Sunday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a statement about the protests, saying, “Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are.” He continued by saying, “What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are.”
