Alexander Bublik’s father recently spoke about their fractured relationship. Stan Bublik, who coached the Kazakh during the early years of his career shared some shocking details about their contract dispute and broken promises.

Bublik picked up a tennis racket when he was four-years-old, playing under the guidance of his father. The 28-year-old continued to train under his father for more than a decade, breaking onto the ATP Tour with him, before they parted ways in 2019. Since then, the Kazakh has continued his success, winning nine tour-level events and breaking into the ATP Top 10 earlier this year.

Recently, in an interview with Sports, Alexander Bublik’s father stated that while he played a role in his son’s success, he was not compensated for his efforts, saying,

“Normally, the player pays the coach’s salary. But how does it work when the coach is the father? It’s a delicate issue. Sasha thinks everyone should be paid except me. To be honest, during his entire tennis career, I received $20,000 from him when we split in 2019. That’s all I earned from my son, and I’m not even mentioning how much I spent on his career.”

Stan Bublik went on to mention that he originally had a contract agreement with his son, but the duo had opted out of it in favor of a spoken promise.

“In fact, we had a contract from when he was about 18. According to it, he gave me 20% of his prize money. At one point, Sasha’s mother said it wasn’t right. He came to me and said, ‘Dad, let’s break it now. But I promise you, as a man, that 20% of the prize money is yours.’ So far, I’ve received $20,000.”

Since parting ways from his father, Bublik has worked with Russian coach Artem Suprunov.

Alexander Bublik has had a strong start to his 2026 season. The Kazakh kicked off his year with a title finish at the Hong Kong Open. He then went on to register a fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open, before reaching the semifinals of the ABN Amro Open.

Now, the 28-year-old is gearing up for the clay court season. Alexander Bublik is scheduled to be in action at the Monte-Carlo Masters, which runs from April 5 to 12. The World No.11 will begin his campaign at the ATP 1000 event against Frenchman Gael Monfils. The two players have previously competed against each other thrice, with Monfils having won both of their most recent encounters.
