With the summer movie season in full swing and several potential blockbuster hits released over the past two months, one star-studded comedy that has gone under the radar has earned one of the highest Rotten Tomatoes scores of 2026.
Directed by Olivia Wilde, The Invite was released in select theaters on June 26 before releasing nationwide on Friday. But the R-rated comedy has some stiff competition, with Disney’s live-action remake of Moana also releasing, not to forget the recent releases of Toy Story 5 and DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”
The Invite also has to compete with other blockbusters to release later this month, with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey coming out on July 17, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing on

The Invite stars Wilde, who plays Angela, with popular comedian Seth Rogen as Joe. Rogen is known for his work in the comedy film industry, creating classics such as SuperBad (2007), Pineapple Express (2008) and This Is the End (2013). Penelope Cruz also stars as Pina in the 2026 film, while Oscar winner Edward Norton plays Hawk.
The Invite follows Joe and Angel’s marriage, which is struggling, before they invite their upstairs neighbors, Pina and Hawk, for a dinner party, where the “night spirals into unexpected places.”
And upon release, the movie has been highly praised on Rotten Tomatoes. With 197 professional reviews at the time of this article, The Invite has secured a near-perfect 96% score on the Tomatometer, earning a Certified Fresh ranking.
However, the A24 film dropped to a 92% on the Rotten Tomatoes audience score called Popcornmeter, and fell even further on IMDb to a 7.8 at the time of this article.

Rogen’s next project is a comedy film he produced called Tiny Fugitives, starring Johnny Knoxville, which is expected to be released on September 18.
