Gleyber Torres homered and drove in five runs and the host Detroit Tigers scored in every inning they batted in a 14-0 rout of the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

Eduardo Valencia, recalled from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the series, hit a pair of homers among four hits and drove in four runs as the Tigers snapped a three-game losing streak. Kevin McGonigle had four hits, scored four runs and drove in another.

Colt Keith reached base four times and knocked in two runs. Javier Baez, activated off the 60-day injured list, added three hits and scored a run as the Tigers rang up 19 hits to Baltimore’s three.

Detroit starter Troy Melton (6-1) lasted seven innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five. Ty Madden completed the shutout with two perfect innings. Baltimore starter Dean Kremer (1-4) surrendered eight runs and eight hits in four innings.

Diamondbacks 8, Pirates 7 (12 innings)

James McCann’s RBI single in the top of the 12th proved to be the difference in Arizona’s wild victory at Pittsburgh.

The Diamondbacks prevailed despite squandering a 6-0 lead in the late innings. McCann recorded four hits overall and drove in automatic runner Tyler Locklear with his final hit off Pirates rookie reliever Wilber Dotel (1-3). Gerardo Carrillo (1-0) pitched two hitless innings to record his first career win.

Nolan Arenado had three hits and an RBI for the Diamondbacks. Brandon Lowe and Bryan Reynolds hit ninth-inning homers for the Pirates to extend the game.

Guardians 6, Reds 5 (Game 1)

Kyle Manzardo hit a grand slam early, Brayan Rocchio brought home Chase DeLauter with a safety squeeze in the eighth inning and visiting Cleveland beat Cincinnati in Game 1 of a split doubleheader.

DeLauter started the winning rally with a one-out single in the eighth and went to third on a Travis Bazzana single. Rocchio followed with a perfect bunt to the first base side. Colin Holderman (6-2) pitched a scoreless seventh for the Guardians and Cade Smith recorded his major league-leading 30th save with a scoreless ninth.

Sal Stewart went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks to pace the Reds.

Reds 2, Guardians 0 (Game 2)

JJ Bleday homered and five relievers combined to toss a three-hit shutout as Cincinnati edged visiting Cleveland in Game 2 of a day-night doubleheader.

Jose Franco (1-0) allowed just one hit over 3 2/3 innings to earn his first major league win as the Reds earned a split. Cleveland suffered its third shutout loss in four games.

Guardians starter Gavin Williams (10-6) was again a tough-luck loser despite another blazing display. The right-hander went seven innings and allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out 12 and walking one.

Nationals 8, Blue Jays 6

Luis Garcia Jr. and Dylan Crews hit back-to-back homers, Cade Cavalli pitched six solid innings and Washington evened its three-game series against visiting Toronto.

Garcia and Brady House had two hits apiece for the Nationals, who collected eight walks en route to their third win in four games. Cavalli (8-4) won his third straight start, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits.

Kazuma Okamoto hit a solo homer for Toronto, which has alternated losses and wins for seven games. First baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left in the fourth inning due to right hamstring tightness. Toronto starter Shane Bieber (2-2) was pulled after allowing four runs on one hit and six walks in two-thirds of an inning.

Cubs 10, Cardinals 2

Seiya Suzuki had three hits and two RBIs and Colin Rea tossed six strong innings for his team-high eighth victory as visiting Chicago beat St. Louis.

Ian Happ had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cubs, who pounded out 17 hits and won for the fourth time in five games. Rea (8-7) allowed one run on four hits.

Michael McGreevy (4-9) permitted seven runs over 1 2/3 innings in the shortest outing of his career as the Cardinals fell under .500 for the first time this season. St. Louis has lost nine of 12 games since the All-Star break.

Yankees 3, White Sox 2

Gerrit Cole pitched six shutout innings and Max Schuemann delivered a two-run double to lift visiting New York to a victory against Chicago.

Jasson Dominguez had a pair of hits for New York, which won for the fifth time in six games while sending American League Central-leading Chicago to its fourth defeat in the past five contests. Cole (4-5) secured his fourth consecutive quality start.

Braden Montgomery had two hits for the White Sox. Anthony Kay (7-5) scattered three runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Marlins 1, Phillies 0

Right-hander Sandy Alcantara logged seven strong innings as Miami nipped visiting Philadelphia.

Kyle Stowers’ first-inning home run accounted for the offensive output for the Marlins, who have won the first two games of this series after entering with a franchise-record 12-game losing streak. Alcantara (11-6) allowed just four hits amid rumors that he could be dealt ahead of Monday’s trade deadline.

Aaron Nola (3-9) allowed one run and five hits in 5 2/3 innings for the Phillies, who have lost eight of 11 games since the All-Star break. Philadelphia’s lineup managed only four hits, two of which came from former Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz.

Rangers 4, Rays 1

Cal Quantrill fired 5 1/3 innings to break a personal three-game losing streak, Austin Wynns homered and Texas got a crucial six-game road trip off to a good start with a win over Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.

It was Quantrill’s (4-3) first victory since June 2 at the St. Louis Cardinals, as he yielded one run on two hits. Evan Carter had two hits, a run, RBI, walk and stolen base. Ezequiel Duran singled to stretch his hitting streak to eight games, and Jacob Latz recorded his 21st save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Junior Caminero was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI for the Rays, who managed just five hits and lost for the second time in eight contests. Jonathan Aranda had two singles. Griffin Jax (6-8) went 5 2/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.

Twins 3, Royals 2

Royce Lewis hit a walk-off two-run triple which lifted Minnesota to a victory over Kansas City in Minneapolis.

The Royals’ Alex Lange (1-6) allowed Victor Caratini’s leadoff single and Brooks Lee’s one-out walk in the ninth before Lewis ripped his first career triple to give the Twins their third straight win. Salvador Perez had the only RBI of the game for Kansas City.

Jack Anderson (1-0) picked up the first victory of his major league career after throwing a scoreless top of the ninth. Taj Bradley started for the Twins and threw six quality innings of two-run, three-hit ball, while Seth Lugo went six innings for the Royals, yielding a run on six hits.

Astros 3, Angels 2

Yordan Alvarez homered and later singled in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, leading Houston to a victory over Los Angeles in Anaheim, Calif.

Christian Walker homered and had two hits for the Astros, who won for the seventh time in eight games. Steven Okert (4-1) threw a hitless inning of relief. Josh Hader needed just four pitches to toss a 1-2-3 ninth and earn his 14th save.

Jorge Soler went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Vaughn Grissom also had two hits and an RBI for Los Angeles, which lost for the fifth time in six games. Angels reliever Mitch Farris (0-2) allowed the decisive run in the ninth.

Padres 8, Rockies 7

Xander Bogaerts’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning enabled San Diego to outlast visiting Colorado.

Mason Miller (3-1) fanned the side in the top of the ninth as the Padres won their fourth straight game and climbed over .500 for the first time since July 1. San Diego finished with 16 hits, five from Fernando Tatis Jr.

Willi Castro and Mickey Moniak homered for the Rockies, who took their third loss in a row when Jimmy Herget (0-4) yielded the deciding run. Colorado’s Cole Carrigg had three hits.

Brewers 8, Giants 2

Logan Henderson pitched effectively into the sixth inning, Luis Lara drove in three runs and Milwaukee gradually pulled away for a win at San Francisco.

Brice Turang collected three hits while Jackson Chourio and William Contreras added two apiece for the Brewers, who evened the three-game series at a win apiece. Henderson (5-1) limited the Giants to two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

Giants starter Landen Roupp (7-9) was charged with four runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. Bryce Eldridge launched a two-run homer in the eighth.

Mariners 7, Dodgers 6

Dominic Canzone hit two home runs, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the eighth inning, as visiting Seattle finished off a victory over Los Angeles.

Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Rob Refsnyder also hit home runs to give the Mariners a season-high five on the night and end a 12-game losing streak to the Dodgers going back to 2021. Seattle starter Luis Castillo allowed five runs on 11 hits over five innings. Jose A. Ferrer (4-1) threw one scoreless inning for the win.

Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy homered for the Dodgers, who were playing their first home game since the All-Star break. Los Angeles All-Star left-hander Justin Wrobleski allowed a season-high four home runs while giving up five runs over six innings. Brock Stewart (0-1) surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings.

Athletics 4, Red Sox 3

Brian Serven smacked a two-run homer and Gage Jump tossed six shutout innings to help the Athletics record a victory over Boston in West Sacramento, Calif.

Henry Bolte had two hits, including an RBI single, and Tommy White notched his second four-hit outing in just 10 big league games for the Athletics. Lawrence Butler added a pinch-hit RBI double as the A’s won for just the seventh time in their past 31 games.

Connor Wong hit a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth to bring Boston within one. Wilyer Abreu had a run-scoring single for the Red Sox, who lost for just the third time in the past 21 games. Boston also had a 10-game road winning streak halted.
