When the ELEGOO OrangeStorm Giga first arrived at my studio, I had to clear an entire corner of the room just to accommodate the box. Calling this printer “large” is an understatement—it is a colossal piece of engineering that challenges the boundary between consumer hobbyist gear and industrial manufacturing. For years, if you wanted to print something a meter tall, you had to slice it into a dozen pieces. With the Giga, those days are officially over. I’ve spent the last month testing its limits, and it has completely reframed how I think about large-scale projects.

Pros & Cons

✅ Monstrous Build Volume: The 800x800x1000mm capacity is virtually unrivaled at this price point.✅ Intelligent Heating: Four independent heated bed zones save massive amounts of electricity when printing smaller parts.✅ Multi-Nozzle Productivity: The ability to add up to four print heads for simultaneous batch printing is a game-changer for small businesses.❌ Massive Footprint: It requires significant floor space and a very sturdy surface; it is not a “desk” printer.❌ Assembly Time: Due to its scale, assembly is a two-person job and can take several hours to get perfectly squared.❌ Filament Consumption: When printing at this scale, you’ll find yourself going through 5kg or 10kg spools faster than you ever imagined.

My Experience: Scaling Up Without Limits

Living with the OrangeStorm Giga is an experience in logistics as much as it is in 3D printing. The first thing I noticed was the build quality of the oversized linear rails and the 10mm wide Y-axis belts. ELEGOO didn’t just upscale a standard printer; they reinforced everything to handle the momentum of a massive carriage moving at 300mm/s. I started my testing with a full-sized wearable Mandalorian chest plate. On my old printers, this was a multi-day, multi-part print. On the Giga, I dropped the file onto the bed, hit print, and watched it finish in a single, seamless piece with surprising detail.

The most impressive piece of “smart” engineering here is the heated bed. A single 800mm heater would be a nightmare for your power bill. Instead, the Giga uses four 410x410mm heating zones. When I was printing smaller calibration tests, only one zone active, which kept the power draw manageable. However, when I did a full-bed “Groot” bust, seeing all four zones glow as the printer worked was a sight to behold. The Klipper firmware integration is flawless, allowing me to monitor the massive prints via a web interface, which is essential because you won’t want to sit in the same room as the cooling fans for 40 hours.

One feature that sets the Giga apart is the multi-nozzle support. I hooked up a second print head and was able to print two identical functional brackets at the same time. For anyone running a “print farm” or a small production shop, this effectively doubles your output for the price of one machine footprint. The 121-point auto-leveling is also surprisingly fast for such a large surface area. It uses a non-contact sensor that was incredibly accurate; despite the slight natural warping you get with such a huge aluminum plate, my first layers were consistently perfect across the entire 800mm span.

However, users should be prepared for the noise and heat. This machine generates a lot of both. It isn’t a printer for a quiet apartment; it belongs in a garage or a dedicated workshop. You also need to consider the Z-axis height. At 1000mm tall, the top of the frame is quite high, and changing filament spools requires some physical reaching. But these are minor inconveniences compared to the sheer joy of pulling a meter-tall, single-piece sculpture off the build plate without a single visible seam.

Who is this for? / Alternatives

The ELEGOO OrangeStorm Giga is designed for cosplayers, automotive prototypers, and small-scale manufacturers. If you are tired of gluing parts together or need to produce large-scale functional prototypes, this is the most cost-effective way to get into the “meter club.”

Alternatives:

Anycubic Kobra 2 Max: Much cheaper and smaller, but offers a similar “large format” feel for those on a budget.Modix Big-60: A more industrial-grade alternative that offers a larger price tag and more customization but similar build volumes.

Quick FAQ

What kind of power outlet does the Giga need? The OrangeStorm Giga is a power-hungry machine. While it runs on standard outlets, it’s highly recommended to have it on a dedicated circuit to avoid tripping breakers during the initial bed-heating phase.

Can it print high-temperature materials like Nylon? With a 300°C nozzle, it can handle the temperature, but because the machine is open-frame, you will likely struggle with warping on large Nylon or ABS prints without a custom-built enclosure.

How many nozzles can I run at once? The Giga supports up to four independent print heads, allowing for simultaneous printing of four identical objects or multi-material configurations.

ELEGOO OrangeStorm Giga Review

Value for Money – 9.0/10

Print Quality (Large Scale) – 8.5/10

“The OrangeStorm Giga is a game-changer that finally makes massive, meter-tall 3D printing accessible and reliable for the prosumer market.”
