Convicted killer and former police chief Grant Hardin, known as the “Devil in the Ozarks,” escaped Sunday from the North Central Unit, a medium-security prison in Calico Rock, Arkansas. Officials are continuing their statewide search for Hardin, who had been serving a lengthy sentence for murder and rape. Hardin briefly held the position of police chief in Gateway, a small town near the Arkansas-Missouri border. A court document reveals that Hardin escaped prison on Sunday afternoon by successfully impersonating a corrections officer. This impersonation led a prison officer to open a secure gate, enabling Hardin to leave the facility. “Anyone with information about inmate Hardin’s whereabouts should contact local law enforcement immediately,” authorities said in a post on X.
