The House has now voted on legislation to end the longest government shutdown in the nation’s history. This comes after a bipartisan deal to end the shutdown advanced through the House Rules Committee overnight, with all Republicans supporting the measure and all Democrats opposing it. Speaker Mike Johnson spoke just before voting began in the House. President Donald Trump is expected to sign the bill by the end of the evening. LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is taking a look at all the action from the House floor with political analyst, Brian Sobel.
Trump has called the bill a “very big victory.” Lawmakers made their return to the nation’s capital this week after nearly eight weeks away. Republicans in the House were able to use their slight majority to get the bill passed by a vote of 222-209. The Senate has already passed the measure.
A majority of House Democrats were expected to vote against the bill ending the government shutdown because it does not include an extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits.
