One of the biggest pops during the Sony Pictures panel at CinemaCon 2026 was when the studio announced an R-rated animated feature based on the cult favorite FromSoftware action game Bloodborne. In Bloodborne, a traveler journeys into a horror-filled gothic city full of deranged mobs and nightmarish creatures lurking around every corner. It has been praised for its challenging gameplay and its richly layered world, which players have spent years exploring.

JackSepticEye enters the chat

The film is produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and creator and gamer Seán McLoughlin, better known by his pseudonym JackSepticEye. Seán is a massive gamer who has spent years battling it out in the brutal world of Bloodborne for his over 48 million online fans. Lyrical Media, parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing with Sony Pictures.

Released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Bloodborne was developed by FromSoftware and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, often considered part of the “Soulsborne” series alongside Dark Souls and Elden Ring.

It’s not a Bloodborne remake but…

I still have my original copy of Bloodborne for the PlayStation 4. If memory serves, it’s the first FromSoftware game I completed in full, after getting my ass handed to me while playing Demon Souls and entries in the Dark Souls franchise. When Bloodborne came out, I became obsessed with it. I was determined not only to beat the game but also to collect all the trophies. Elden Ring is the only other FromSoftware game I have the platinum trophy for. I need to go back and get the others. This is my vow.

Let’s get Tarnished

Speaking of Elden Ring, Alex Garland is still hard at work adapting the expansive action-RPG for the silver screen. Released in February 2022, Elden Ring is a popular video game that features story contributions from Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin. The famed RPG follows a group of outcasts known as the Tarnished who are summoned to the mystical Lands Between to reassemble the shattered Elden Ring. Details about the movie are scarce, but the last we heard, Heartstopper‘s Kit Connor and Cailee Spaeny are in talks to lead the cast.
