Alphonso Davies has committed his future to Bayern Munich, signing a new contract with the Bundesliga champions.
After the deal was announced on Tuesday, it effectively ended Real Madrid’s prolonged interest in the Canadian star.
The fresh agreement will keep Davies at the Allianz Arena until the end of the 2029-30 season, marking what could be an 11-year tenure with the club if he sees out the full contract.
“I am very happy to have extended my contract at this great club,” Davies said in a statement.
“I came to FC Bayern when I was 18 and just wanted to learn as much as possible every day to become one of the best in my position. Now I’m looking forward to another five years together. I’ve already achieved a lot here, but there’s more to come.”
Davies’ decision to stay deals a blow to Real Madrid, who were keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old left-back.

His prior contract was set to expire in June 2025, and Madrid had hoped to either negotiate a transfer fee or bring him in on a free transfer this summer.
Despite Madrid’s interest, Bayern were determined to retain Davies, offering him an enhanced contract to secure his stay in Munich.
“Alphonso Davies has become one of the best players in the world in his position at Bayern and has attracted a lot of interest,” Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund stated.
“The fact he wants to continue here with us shows Bayern’s status in international football and that Alphonso has found his sporting home in Munich.”
This season, Davies has featured in 16 Bundesliga matches under coach Vincent Kompany, finding the net once while helping Bayern maintain their spot at the top of the table.
Davies originally joined Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 and has since developed into one of the world’s premier left-sided players.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, continue to seek reinforcements at left-back due to uncertainties surrounding Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia.
The Spanish giants have a history of securing top talents on free transfers, with recent examples including Kylian Mbappe in 2024, Antonio Rudiger in 2022, and David Alaba from Bayern in 2021.
