The Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump administration may continue construction on the planned White House ballroom.
It was a 5-4 ruling.
Chief Justice John Roberts criticized the decision as a potential violation of separation of powers.
“I am pleased to report that the United States Supreme Court has just ruled in favor of the Ballroom/Military Complex being built without any further contingency, doubt, or threat,” President Donald Trump wrote in response to the ruling.
The order was signed by Chief Justice John Roberts, who is responsible for appeals in Washington, D.C., but the nation’s top jurist made his displeasure known. In a dissent, Roberts declared, “Today’s decision is no victory for the separation of powers.”
The unsigned order does not settle the case. Instead, it returns the case to the lower courts.
