The Animoca Brands-owned blockchain gaming ecosystem, The Sandbox, has entered into a partnership with the popular watch brand, G-SHOCK, to host a virtual sky race competition.
According to a tweet by the official PlayToEarn X account, The Sandbox and G-SHOCK are offering prizes for the competition in SAND and NFT avatars. The primary requirement for participating in the game is a G-SHOCK DROID Avatar, which is currently on sale on The Sandbox’s marketplace.
The G-SHOCK DROID Avatar Sky Race competition allows players to explore Casio’s G-SHOCK history through adventure-style gameplay. This competition features shock-resistant survival races in G-SHOCK City, a virtual world within The Sandbox metaverse. G-SHOCK launched the virtual city in The Sandbox in September 2025.
Interested participants must use their avatars in the sky race, take a screenshot of their results showing their avatar and race time, and post on X before April 22 to qualify.
At the end of the competition, The Sandbox and G-SHOCK will award 100 SAND each to the top 10 fastest verified times and 46 G-SHOCK DROID Avatars to other winners. The avatars will include 25 common, 15 uncommon, and six rare collectibles.
The latest development comes shortly after The Sandbox announced that it will launch artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help creators build in the gaming ecosystem. By introducing tools that enhance both amateur and professional creators in the ecosystem, The Sandbox aims to unlock new creative languages and imaginative experiences that are not limited by time or medium.
In developing the next phase of The Sandbox, the team behind the project is also allocating tokens into major liquidity pools across the platform’s decentralized exchange (DEX) partners. Additionally, the team is partnering with top-tier trading counterparties.
“We are further strengthening the $SAND ecosystem as we prepare for our AI-led future! We hope this prepares us to take advantage of the next stage of development of The Sandbox this year, which we have detailed in our Q4 update…This move bolsters the foundation for our creators and players worldwide,” the team stated.
Meanwhile, The Sandbox is working toward launching a mobile application for third-person shooter games. Called The Sandbox NEXT, the mobile app is being built on the real-time 3D gaming creation tool, Unreal Engine. The team launched an exclusive mobile playtest, powered by SAND, last month.
