In 2026, Social Security and Supplemental Security Income recipients will see their benefits increase by 2.8% thanks to the annual cost-of-living adjustment or COLA. The Social Security Administration’s (SSA) statement says benefits will increase by $56 per month, on average, starting in January.
The September CPI report was released despite the ongoing government shutdown so that the SSA could make the COLA announcement.
Yahoo Finance personal finance columnist Kerry Hannon reports the details.
