I will never vote for you again.” Another awkward parallel brings the conversation right back to January 6th, calling Cruz “a 1/6 participant” who “belongs in prison.”

That outburst brought others to the rescue, one saying Cruz’s analysis was “spot on,” while another lamented term limits – and not education reforms. The debate even led to a public challenge: “Show me the word School or Education in the constitution.”

With all this chaotic activity, Cruz was literally campaigning on it, giving an account of the clandestine bargaining occurring at the White House, while his refined appearance was completely counterposed to the tone of the responses, where formal arguments gave way to ad hominem attacks and half-hearted excuses for conspiracy theories surrounding hidden clauses benefiting “data-heavy companies.”

One of the curious things here is to observe how school choice, once almost an official backburner issue with conservatives, has become the point of contention within the large package promoted by Trump. Hopefully, this remains Cruz’s legacy and not another point of contention, but judging by the fiery reactions, this will not be the last debate on education reform.

Now, the bill’s fate lies on congressional negotiators who must blend these passionate expressions with the practical sides of governing. One thing is for sure-if these reactions are a sign-this battle has just begun.
