The cracks inside the House of Windsor may have been deeper than anyone realized.

According to royal author Russell Myers, Prince William was not quietly standing by in 2019 when his uncle, (the now-former Prince) Andrew, attempted to defend his relationship with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In fact, the future king was reportedly pushing for something far more drastic behind palace doors — TOTAL banishment.

Speaking to Us Weekly about it this week, Myers revealed just how furious William was after watching his uncle in one very specific scenario: on the disgraced ex-royal’s now-infamous sit-down on BBC Newsnight. Myers said:

“William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC Newsnight interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.”

That interview, as many will remember, was meant to clear Andrew’s name. Instead, it detonated like a bomb. The former working royal showed no visible remorse over his association with Epstein, even after Epstein had been convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution.

Instead, during the interview, Andrew described the relationship as beneficial, saying the connections and opportunities had been “very useful.” He also called Epstein’s Manhattan mansion “a convenient place to stay.” It was obviously, absolutely devastating.

For William, it reportedly crossed a line that could not be uncrossed. Myers explained:

“Refusing to apologize for his relationship and refusing to acknowledge the actual trauma of Epstein victims was an absolute red line for William.”

And it didn’t stop at private outrage. Myers claims William went straight to the top — to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and to his father, now King Charles III — with a blunt demand:

“He actually said to the late queen and his father, ‘He has to be banished. Andrew has to be rid of both the public and the private royal family.’”

Wow!!!

That is not the language of palace diplomacy. That is the language of someone who believed the monarchy itself was at risk.

And in many ways, it was. The Epstein scandal has hung over the royal family like a dark cloud for years. Andrew was eventually stripped of his military affiliations and royal patronages, and he stepped back from public duties, but the damage was already done.

During the disastrous interview, Andrew also denied knowing Virginia Roberts Giuffre, despite a widely circulated photograph of the two together. He claimed he had no memory of it and even questioned whether the image had been doctored. In 2022, he settled her civil lawsuit for $12 million without admitting wrongdoing. Giuffre died two years later, adding yet another layer of tragedy to an already painful chapter.

Now, with new allegations surfacing — including claims that Andrew shared confidential travel information with Epstein during his time as a UK trade envoy and that law enforcement is investigating whether Epstein may have trafficked a woman to the UK for him — the scandal feels far from over. If convicted on the latest accusations, he could face life in prison.

Myers believes that if William were already king, the response would have been swifter and more decisive:

“[William] would have taken certain measures to have Andrew completely out of the picture.”

Still, William reportedly understands the limits of his current power within the royal hierarchy. Myers said:

“William understands that his father needs to take the lead on this, and he’s willing to support him in any way he can.”
