Last year, it was announced that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon had been renewed for a fourth and final season… and now that those eight episodes have wrapped production, Reedus is saying goodbye to the character after playing him for sixteen years.

The first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon had the following synopsis: Daryl (Norman Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

The six episodes of the second season picked up where the first left off, following fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon (Reedus) and Carol Peletier (McBride). They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet (Anne Charrier)’s movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France’s future.

The third season tracked Daryl and Carol as they attempt to journey back to the United States. After leaving France, their travels take them through foreign lands like England and Spain. Along the way, they encounter bandit gangs, a leper colony, and hostile human settlements while navigating the unfamiliar terrain of the European walker apocalypse.

Reedus posted a batch of behind-the-scenes images on Instagram and wrote, “Finally going through these photos to check off from the last episode. … It was really hard to kill any of them. I didn’t post any of those here, but I can’t wait for people to see this show. The crew (was the) best I’ve ever worked with. The feeling of accomplishment when it was over was just amazing. Such hard work and so much heart put into this, I think you’re gonna feel it. It was a special season. I can’t wait for you to see it. It hits just way different this time.“
