It is not new for the fans when a star leaves AEW to join WWE in hopes of doing better in their career. The same thing happened when a former champion in the Jacksonville-based company decided to join the Entertainment Juggernaut earlier this year. The star in question is none other than Royce Keys (fka Powerhouse Hobbs). The 41-year-old star was one-third of the World Trios Champions alongside Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata in All Elite Wrestling.

Royce Keys debuted in WWE at the Royal Rumble PLE during the 30-man match and eliminated Damian Priest before he got thrown out by Bronson Reed. He had just departed All Elite Wrestling earlier that month after dropping the Trios titles to Hangman Adam Page and JetSpeed on the January 14th edition of Collision. He had been with AEW for nearly six years and was a former TNT Champion there.

During an interview with 1077 The Bone, the former AEW star stated that it was best for him the leave the Tony Khan led promotion and join WWE. He also said that he always wanted to work for the Entertainment Juggernaut.

“It was one of those things where this was what I always wanted. The opportunity’s here. Let’s see what we make out of it. And I will always put 10 toes down, 100 percent, seven days a week, always bet on myself; It’s business. You’re gonna have your friends that you always keep in contact with, and you have your acquaintances, but this is business. I have to do what’s best for Royce Keys, and the best thing to do for Royce was to go to WWE.” [H:T/WrestlePurists]

While Royce Keys debuted in dominant fashion, he hasn’t been used in any major storylines by Triple H’s creative yet.

Royce Keys revealed the reason behind his WWE debut

Royce Keys sat for an interview with Stephanie McMahon for her What’s Your Story? Podcast where he recalled the moment when he signed with WWE. He stated how he will always be remembered as someone who has worked in the Entertainment Juggernaut and needs to work hard every day to not let his people down.

“The moment I had talks about coming here and signing here, this isn’t a one-off. This isn’t me, like, ‘Hey, I’m a WWE Superstar now. Let me gloat.’ No. I still have to work. It took me years to get here. Honeymoon phase is over. Let’s get with it. Let’s do work. I got people that depend on me. I got people that I can’t let down. I got people I take care of. If I fail, they don’t eat, and I’m not about to have that on my conscience,” he said.

Fans are excited to see what Triple H has planned for the former TNT Champion with SummerSlam just a few days away.
