Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for infotainment screens that may go blank while driving. The recall itself is sprawling, covering a large swath of the brand’s lineup, with 144,049 units recalled in total. Mercedes’ recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall spans Mercedes’ lineup, covering the 2024-2026 AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE, and GLC vehicles.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the issue is software-related. The brand’s records show the software within its infotainment units could trigger an “increased number of system resets.” These resets are part of something intentional, which Mercedes terms as “intended fallback behavior,” but does not elaborate on. Regardless, the result is the same. A reset will cause an interruption in the information displayed in the infotainment system. Under the law, this interruption is severe enough to necessitate a recall, as it “increases the risk of a crash,” per the NHTSA and federal vehicle safety standards. Drivers can keep an eye out for resets, but the recall states no warning will occur before the issue begins to happen.

Mercedes-Benz

Luckily, the remedy is simple. Mercedes-Benz will update the software on vehicles under the recall, which should fix the blank screen issue. The automaker says it has notified dealers as of May 8, and will notify owners on June 26. In the meantime, you can check if your vehicle is covered under the recall at the NHTSA’s website.
