The second Future Vision conference in Australia is welcoming some of the country’s hottest new creators.

Confirmed for the Melbourne event are Deadloch creators Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, The Newsreader‘s Michael Lucas, Bring Her Back co-writer and co-director Danny Philippou, Invisible Boys‘ Nicholas Verso and Vanessa Gazy, creator of Netflix’s 2022 series Echoes.

McCartney and McLennan, known as the Kates, will appear alongside Lucas and Gazy on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the three-day event, which runs from July 14-16.

A day prior, on the opening Monday, Philippou, who along with his brother Michael Philippot is co-writer and co-director of global horror hits Talk to Me and Bring Her Back and recently featured on our podcast Crew Call, will join Tig Terera (Swift Street) and Catherine Smyth McMullen (The Sandman) for a Future Voices and Disruptors panel.

They’ll be joining the likes of Baby Reindeer creator and star Richard Gadd, Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright and Pachinko‘s Soo Hugh at the event, which will be held at the ACMI in Melbourne, Victoria. All three will engage in in-depth on stage conversations with moderators.

Gadd and Hoo will later appear in conversation with Colin From Accounts star and co-creator Harriet Dyer in a session titled, ‘Passion Project to Global Hit’, while Asher Keddie (Strife), Imogen Banks (Fake) and Bruna Papandrea (Nine Perfect Strangers) will appear at fireside chats.

Future Vision, which has backing from the likes of Netflix and Disney and Stan, aims to act as an exchange between established screen professionals and others, with a core mission of supporting Australia storytelling on the global stage. It was created by Australians in Film, in association with presenting partners Screen Australia and VicScreen.

“Future Vision is a one-of-a-kind incubator for Australian screen talent looking to attract international audiences and creative investment,” says Peter Ritchie, Executive Director of Australians in Film. “Our 2025 lineup brings together boldly innovative creative leaders who are shaping the future of Australian television on world screens.”
