Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has recently faced disqualification from driving due to two driving offences. This incident has garnered attention as the Argentina international received a ban and was fined £3,020 for failing to identify the driver of a Porsche Cayenne.

These charges stem from incidents where the car was reportedly caught speeding on Carmarthen Road in Swansea on December 20, 2023, and running a red light on Church Street in Llanelli on November 28, 2023. The responsibility of proving Fernandez as the driver in either situation was not established.

Both South Wales Police and Dyfed-Powys Police had reached out to the 23-year-old as the registered owner of the vehicle, requesting information. However, Fernandez did not respond to their inquiries.

Fernandez has been given six penalty points for each offence

Fernandez was not present at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court for his sentencing, having been found guilty in his absence in two prior hearings. Court documents listed two addresses for Fernandez, one at the Chelsea training ground in Surrey and another in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Chair of the magistrates, Wyn Evans, stated, “We are dealing with two matters of failing to give the driver’s identity which has been proved in Enzo Fernandez’s absence.” The fines included a total of £1,000 and £110 in police costs for the Llanelli offence, and an additional £1,000 charge, £800 victim surcharge, and £110 in police costs for the Swansea offence.

Furthermore, Fernandez received six penalty points for each offence, accumulating a total of 12 points. With an existing nine penalty points on his license for speeding, he faced an automatic six-month ban starting from the decision date.

Enzo Fernandez was part of the Argentina team that secured the World Cup victory in December 2022. Shortly after, he made a high-profile transfer to Chelsea in a record-breaking £106.8m deal from Benfica, where he had previously played after his stint with River Plate in Argentina.

As we reflect on this incident involving Enzo Fernandez, it serves as a reminder of the consequences of not adhering to driving regulations. Despite his success on the football field, Fernandez’s off-field actions have led to significant penalties and a driving ban.

The importance of responsible driving cannot be understated, and public figures like Fernandez must set a positive example for their fans and followers. This situation highlights the need for all individuals, regardless of their status, to comply with traffic laws and regulations to ensure the safety of themselves and others on the road.
