Crypto’s Latest Wave Of Partnerships: From Seoul To Silicon Valley

This week the deals lean toward distribution more than invention: Circle wiring into two of Korea’s biggest super-apps, Mesh and Bitget closing the last mile on crypto payments, Microsoft betting on European AI sovereignty. Less “new technology,” more “get what already works into as many hands as possible.”

OpenWorld and Blockchain.com Partner on Real-World Asset Infrastructure

OpenWorld, a blockchain firm focused on tokenizing real-world assets, has struck a multi-year partnership with Blockchain.com that comes with a strategic investment attached.

Under the deal, Blockchain.com will support OpenWorld across institutional market access, trading, treasury management and its broader RWA push, plugging its execution and balance-sheet capabilities directly into OpenWorld’s platform rather than leaving OpenWorld to build that infrastructure alone.

The idea is to give OpenWorld’s clients something closer to end-to-end coverage: issuance, treasury management and secondary market operations handled under one roof, whether the work is OpenWorld’s own initiative or a third-party engagement.

Matthew Shaw, OpenWorld’s CEO and co-founder, said the company made a deliberate call to build its infrastructure layer “alongside best-in-class institutional counterparties,” pointing to Blockchain.com’s execution depth and regulatory footing as exactly what its client pipeline needs.

Al Turnbull, who leads institutional client services at Blockchain.com, described the tie-up as a natural next step for the firm’s institutional business, framing OpenWorld’s tokenization foundation and Blockchain.com’s network together as a “seamless, secure pipeline” for institutions launching tokens.

The timing lines up with a broader shift. Institutional and high-net-worth investors increasingly want on-chain exposure to traditional assets, and RWAs have become one of the more credible growth stories in digital assets, largely because tokenization allows fractional ownership and near-continuous settlement in markets that used to be far more illiquid.

Mesh and Bitget Wallet Formalize a Partnership to Push Crypto Payments Further

Mesh and Bitget Wallet have made official what was already an informal working relationship, integrating self-custody wallets into Mesh’s payments network so that Bitget’s roughly 100 million users can fund accounts and make purchases across hundreds of platforms without the usual copy-paste wallet address dance.

The mechanics are simple enough: Bitget Wallet now shows up natively inside Mesh’s connection interface, so a user can link their self-custody account to a third-party platform in a few taps rather than juggling multiple apps to authorize a single transaction.

Assets become spendable across Mesh’s integrated exchanges and providers almost immediately, which is really the whole point: crypto that’s easy to move is crypto that actually gets used.

Bam Azizi, Mesh’s co-founder and CEO, said formalizing the relationship was about building something “more durable together,” describing the shared goal as making the crypto people already hold easy to spend or move wherever they’d like.

Bitget Wallet brings real scale to the table too, having already processed over $177 billion in stablecoin volume through its Onchain Payments Matrix.

Alvin Kan, the wallet’s COO, said the integration builds on that existing payment stack (cards, QR payments, transfers) and argued this kind of connectivity is what makes crypto genuinely practical for everyday spending rather than just holding.

Kakao Group Signs MOU With Circle to Build Out Korea’s Digital Asset Ecosystem

Kakao Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Circle, the company behind USDC, to explore joining Kakao’s sprawling platform and financial services ecosystem with Circle’s blockchain and payments infrastructure.

It’s an early-stage agreement (no specific products or timelines have been named yet), but it signals where one of South Korea’s largest tech conglomerates thinks digital finance is heading.

Kakao Pay, the group’s mobile payments arm, has reportedly already begun laying groundwork for a Korean-style digital asset ecosystem built alongside a global infrastructure partner, which this MOU appears to formalize.

The pairing makes some sense on paper: Kakao brings hundreds of millions of users across messaging, payments and commerce, while Circle brings a stablecoin with real cross-border payment utility already proven out elsewhere.

What this could eventually look like, according to reporting from The Asia Business Daily, ranges from stablecoin-based remittances to tokenized assets or blockchain settlement systems woven into everyday tools like KakaoTalk and Kakao Pay.

None of that is confirmed yet. This is a “we’re exploring” agreement, not a launch announcement.

Still, it fits a pattern showing up across Asian fintech more broadly: established consumer platforms partnering with blockchain infrastructure firms rather than building stablecoin capability from scratch, betting that regulatory clarity in markets like South Korea is about to make this kind of integration far less risky than it would have been a year or two ago.

Toss and Toss Bank Sign On With Circle for Stablecoin Payments Infrastructure

Toss and its banking arm, Toss Bank, announced on July 23 a strategic memorandum of understanding with Circle to explore blockchain-based payments and settlement infrastructure. An agreement that, like Kakao’s, sits firmly in exploratory territory rather than committing to specific products.

The three companies plan to look at connecting Circle’s infrastructure with the Toss ecosystem once relevant regulatory frameworks are in place, with each side bringing a different piece.

Toss wants to apply its experience running a financial super app toward digital wallets, biometric-authentication payments, and services built around Circle’s USDC.

Toss Bank is more focused on cross-border settlement, examining how its existing bank account-based infrastructure might link up with stablecoin rails to speed up global payments processing.

There’s also a won-denominated angle: the group wants to explore tokenized financial services and won-based digital assets as regulation around them develops, alongside shared work on compliance, risk management and anti-money laundering frameworks.

Kim Kyu-ha, Toss’s chief business officer, said the company is weighing a range of technology partnerships to make payments more seamless for users.

Park Jin-hyun, Toss Bank’s chief strategy officer, was more cautious, noting that stablecoin infrastructure needs real regulatory and risk frameworks behind it before it can move into everyday financial services.

Circle’s Dante Disparte said he was glad to explore the possibilities with both companies, calling it a “shared commitment” to innovation alongside compliance.

Fetch.ai Teams Up With RedSquid TV to Build an Agentic AI Smart TV Platform

Fetch.ai and RedSquid TV announced on July 21 what they’re billing as the first operator-grade agentic AI television platform, essentially putting autonomous AI agents inside a TV that can handle tasks like finding shows, placing orders and controlling smart home devices without being asked step by step.

RedSquid builds white-label TV software for telecom and Pay TV operators, the kind of companies that have spent years losing ground to device makers like Samsung and Google on both user experience and ad revenue.

Rather than compete head-on with Tizen or Google TV, RedSquid is positioning itself as a software layer those operators can brand as their own and use to claw back some control over the living room.

The more interesting use cases go beyond content discovery. Picture watching a cooking show and having the agent identify ingredients on screen and offer to order them, or spotting a destination in a film and pulling together travel options unprompted.

The agents would also coordinate connected devices around the house (lighting, thermostats, smart home routines), all running inside what the companies describe only as a “trusted environment,” language that matters given the agents can make purchases and control physical devices on their own.

No financial terms or rollout timeline were disclosed, and carrier-grade deployments tend to move slowly through testing and compliance review.

For Fetch.ai, it’s another data point in a broader agentic-economy push that began with its founding role in the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance back in March 2024.

Microsoft Deepens Its Mistral AI Partnership With a Multibillion-Dollar Compute Deal

Microsoft is putting billions into Mistral’s European data centers and pulling the French startup’s models further into its own products, in a deal aimed at giving regulated industries (banks, hospitals, manufacturers) a way to run AI without their data leaving Europe.

Notably, Brad Smith, Microsoft’s vice chair and president, made clear the money isn’t a new equity stake in Mistral; it’s tied to Microsoft’s own spending on AI compute and capacity.

The hardware side is real: Mistral is expanding its European data centers with thousands of Nvidia Vera Rubin GPUs, capacity Microsoft will also draw on to serve its own cloud customers.

Two Mistral models, Medium 3.5 and OCR 4, are now live in Microsoft Foundry, with Medium 3.5 also available in Copilot Studio, and both can run on Azure Local, letting organizations keep workloads entirely inside their own facilities, even fully disconnected from outside networks.

Smith and Mistral co-founder Arthur Mensch told Reuters the deal gives regulated businesses more control over how their AI infrastructure actually gets deployed, with Smith describing it as combining “American and European technology” to provide continuous, assured access.

Mensch separately told the Wall Street Journal that two-thirds of Mistral’s current customers already work through Microsoft, and expects the expanded distribution to reach further across Europe.

The two companies plan joint sales efforts across financial services, manufacturing and healthcare, building on Microsoft’s 2025 pledges to grow EU data center capacity.

Centrifuge Partners With Ground to Widen Access to Tokenized Real-World Assets

Centrifuge, one of the bigger names in real-world asset tokenization, has partnered with fintech API company Ground to make tokenized products easier to reach for banks and fintechs that don’t want to build the plumbing themselves.

Unveiled July 22, the deal combines Centrifuge’s tokenization infrastructure (which has handled between $1.3 billion and $2 billion in assets, with Coinbase’s Base among its established users) with Ground’s API layer, which the company positions as making on-chain finance about as simple to plug in as an embedded video.

Through Ground’s expanded APIs, banks and fintechs will get access to Janus Henderson’s tokenized treasury fund, JTRSY, along with its AAA-rated CLO fund, JAAA. This will give smaller or less crypto-native institutions a route into structured credit products that would otherwise require considerably more technical lift to touch.

Ground describes itself as building the “Money Infrastructure Company” and has expanded its leadership team to support the rollout.

The practical effect, if it plays out as intended, is lower barriers for institutions dipping into tokenized treasuries and structured products for the first time, at a moment when institutional investors are actively hunting for diversified yield.

Whether that translates into meaningfully more liquidity in tokenized markets is the part still left to prove out.
