Occasionally, credit card issuers and their travel partners offer transfer bonuses, allowing you to get even more value from your points. For example, if your points transfer to an airline at a 1:1 ratio, and that airline is offering a 25% transfer bonus, transferring 100,000 miles to that airline would net you 125,000 airline miles. That means you can transfer fewer miles to book the same award flight.

Who doesn’t want to be rewarded?

Create a NerdWallet account for personalized recommendations, and find the card that rewards you the most for your spending.

Current credit card transfer bonuses

A summary of current transfer bonuses offered by the major transferrable point programs includes:

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Air France/KLM Flying Blue

When should you transfer points?

You should generally only transfer rewards to airline and hotel partners if you have a specific redemption in mind. Once the rewards are transferred, it can’t be undone. Those rewards are subject to the restrictions of the individual loyalty program, which may include expiration dates or loyalty program devaluations. If you decide to take advantage of a transfer bonus without immediate travel plans, be sure to understand those restrictions before you transfer.

Using an award search tool like PointsYeah can help you find redemption options for the transferrable points you’re trying to redeem. You can even filter results to only include transferable points with a current transfer bonus.
