Coco Gauff’s second major title looked very much like her first at the 2023 U.S. Open where she defeated Aryna Sabalenka after falling down one set.
At the French Open final on June 7, Gauff lost the first set in a tiebreak before storming back to win the match 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4. It was the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 final in Paris since 2013, when Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova, and just the second in the last 30 years.
Following the match, Gauff took to her Instagram stories to reveal she wrote the win into existence.
“Ignore my handwriting, but I saw Gabby Thomas do this. Had to do the same lol,” she said in the first post showing a note that read, “I will win French Open 2025” six times and “I will be French Open Champion 2025!” twice.
Thomas, who won three Gold medals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, previously revealed that she wrote a note to herself that she would be the 200-meter Olympic champion.
“I wrote down over and over, every morning that I was in Paris, that I will be the Olympic champion in my Notes app … and I envisioned the race all day, every day, imagining myself winning and crossing the line in front,”
Gauff followed her post up with a note she wrote herself on June 8, 2021 that read: “I had a dream last night that I will win French Open. Idk if it is true or if it is this year’s French Open but I had a dream about it.”
In the caption of the photo she wrote, “Ignore the typos but look at the date. If you can dream it, you can do it.”
Gauff became just the fifth American to win two major titles at the age of 21 joining Serena Williams (6), Chris Evert (6), Venus Williams (4) and Tracy Austin (2).
