The Drug Enforcement Administration has a new tool in its fight against drug cartels.
The agency says its new lab in Atlanta, Georgia is streamlining their investigations and giving them an edge against drug traffickers.
This month, the DEA in Atlanta seized over 1,000 pounds of meth in an operation against the “Jalisco New Generation Cartel.” Agents say they arrested five suspected members of the cartel, which the Trump administration designated a foreign terrorist organization in February. After the bust, agents sent the drugs to the brand-new lab for processing and testing. DEA chemists at labs like the one in Atlanta play a vital role in prosecution, since charges are based on what the drug is and how much agents seize.
