The U.S. Supreme Court decided in a historic 6-3 ruling that ex-presidents have immunity from prosecution for particular actions taken in office.
The ruling marks the first time since the nation’s 18th century founding that the Supreme Court has ruled that former presidents can be shielded from criminal charges.
Former President Trump reacted on social media by saying, “Big win for our constitution and democracy. Proud to be an American!’
What’s next? The federal case is now back in the hands of Judge Tanya Chutkan who will have to decide whether the Supreme Court rulings require some of the allegations against Trump to be tossed out.
