Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sticks very closely to the original when it comes to the story and characters. While yes, there are some newly added quests and character moments, those don’t hamper the original’s story in any way. Instead, these new additions simply complement the original’s story with fleshed-out character arcs.

Now, when it comes to the ending, Resynced stays completely faithful to the 2013 original. However, there’s also an additional chapter added to Resynced, which adds a bit more context to the original’s ending, specifically giving closure to Edward Thatch.

What is the ending of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

The ending of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is as somber and heartbreaking as it was in the original. By the end of the game, Edward has finally cornered Torres and his Templars by eliminating most of his associates, including the Governor, Woods Rogers, and even the Pirate Captain turned Templar, Ben Hornigold.

At this point in the story, Torres still has access to the Sage’s Relic and even the Observatory’s location. However, with his key associates defeated, he now has to take on the task of reaching the Observatory on his own.

After defeating Roberts, Edward and Anne make their way to the Observatory themselves. Upon entering the Observatory a second time, Edward finds that Torres has activated the central mechanism and can now get a glimpse at both the past and the present.

However, before Torres can use the Observatory for his Templar goals, he is ultimately assassinated by Edward. In his final moments, Torres does remark that Edward is a good person, but one who doesn’t yet understand the grander schemes at play between the Templars, the Assassins, and the Isu (reincarnated as the Sage).

Once Torres is dead, Ah Tabai, Anne, and Adewale enter the Observatory and restore the central device to stop the earthquake that would’ve enveloped the entire island.

After some time, Edward returns to Great Inagua with his crew, where he reminisces about his past, his people, those he once called friends, and also his late wife, Caroline, who passed away while Edward was chasing Roberts and the Observatory in the fool’s errand to get the “riches” he always wanted.

However, after all that happened, he finally understands that the real wealth was the friends he met along his journey. From Stede Bonnet to James Kidd (Mary Read) to even John Rackham, all of them once used to be his family away from family.

But all those people are now either dead or are in a distant place, far removed from their past selves. At the end, Edward, despite all the riches and prizes he accumulated over the years, was still left empty and alone with no one to call “family.” That said, he did have someone whom he was eagerly waiting to meet: his daughter, Jennifer Scott.

After the ending, there’s another scene that takes place roughly a decade later and shows a much older Edward Kenway alongside Jennifer as well as a young Haytham Kenway. All three of them are attending the Beggar’s Opera, which is a location fans will remember from the start of Assassin’s Creed 3.

Does Edward Kenway become an Assassin in the end

Yes, at the end of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s story, Edward ends up joining the Assassins. Furthermore, in the later years of his life, Edward even takes up the role of Master Assassin of the London-based Brotherhood of the Assassins. He even creates a mansion in his name, which doubles as the Assassin HQ.

What happens to Edward Thatch (Blackbeard)

In Sequence 8, Edward Thatch, i.e., Blackbeard, is killed by an officer of the Royal Navy named Robert Maynard. After completing Sequence 8, you will get an optional quest titled A World Without Gold. This quest essentially goes over Robert Maynard’s plans to create an armada of his own.

However, in the end, his plans are thwarted by Edward and his newly appointed Officer, Tobias “Deadman” Smith.

Although Edward isn’t able to assassinate Maynard, he does end up destroying his fleet as well as all his Men-o-War ships. There’s also another quest, Blackbeard’s Treasure, which serves as a closure to Blackbeard’s story.

How to get Blackbeard’s treasure in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

Once you finish Sequence 8, you will get a small cutscene where Edward discovers a map hidden within Thatch’s hat. Long story short, the map leads to Thatch’s secret treasure in Anotto Bay. It’s a treasure that Blackbeard doesn’t want anybody other than Edward to find. And once he does, it ends up being a bittersweet closure to Blackbeard’s story.

In his final days, Blackbeard wanted to just settle down and start a farm. He wanted Nassau to be the home he always desired. However, with the Governor, Woods Rogers, taking over and dismantling Nassau, he now wants Edward to build the Great Inagua in the image of Nassau.

And to help with that, he wants him to use the gardening tools to create a farm, which should help feed and nourish all the people who are neglected by the Governor and the Templars.
