President Donald Trump made headlines today during a trip to New York, where he spoke to the U.N. General Assembly. This is where the President stated his belief that Ukraine could reclaim all territory lost to Russia. This marks a major shift in Trump’s rhetoric. The President previously suggested Ukraine needed to be open to ceding territory to achieve peace with Russia. Hal Kempfer, host of The Strat Podcast and a retired Marine Intelligence Officer and National Security Analyst, is here to discuss this situation with LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall.
President Trump also threatened to hit Russia with “a very strong round of powerful tariffs” if Putin doesn’t come to the table to end the war. He claimed that would “stop the bloodshed .. very quickly” but also suggested fighting will not end as long as China and European nations are buying energy from Russia.
Trump has already reduced U.S. support for the U.N. since his latest inauguration. The President withdrew the U.S. from the World Health Organization and ended participation in the U.N. Human Rights Council.
