West Ham in talks to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, previously targeted by Man Utd and Juventus

West Ham are currently in negotiations to finalize a deal with Nice for central defender Jean-Clair Todibo, who has also been a target for Manchester United and Juventus. A previous agreement was reached earlier in the summer for a loan with an option to buy for €32m [£27m].

Initially, it was believed that Todibo was waiting for Juventus to make a move. However, Juventus have been unable to reach a resolution with Nice despite weeks of negotiations. This has opened up an opportunity for West Ham to re-enter the picture, with talks now revolving around a potential loan with an obligation to buy and eventually secure a permanent transfer for the player.

The final decision will ultimately come down to Todibo if West Ham can reach a full agreement with Nice. The defender still has three years remaining on his current contract.

West Ham are actively looking to sign a center-back due to Kurt Zouma’s imminent move to UAE club Shabab Al-Ahli. Manchester United, who have a minority stake in the club through INEOS and also own Nice, had shown interest in Todibo but are unable to make a move due to an agreement between the two clubs not to transfer players between each other to ensure they can both compete in UEFA competition.

When does the summer transfer window close?

The 2024 summer transfer window is set to officially close on August 30 at 11pm UK time in the Premier League and 11.30pm in Scotland. The Premier League has synced up the Deadline Day with other major leagues in Europe after discussions with leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.
