Xiaomi’s foray into electric cars has rapidly begun to shift the balance in the industry. The company set a new record by delivering over 30,000 electric vehicles in July alone. During this period, the production line became completely full, and a significant portion of orders will be delayed until 2026.

YU7 Pushes Production Limits

According to shared details, on June 26th, the official launch day of the Xiaomi YU7, 200,000 locked orders were received in just three minutes. This number exceeded 240,000 within the first 18 hours, demonstrating Xiaomi’s rapid and impactful entry into the automotive scene. However, this success also brings production challenges due to the high demand.

Xiaomi’s current production capacity is struggling to keep up with orders. Data from the company’s mobile application indicates that for a customer placing a new YU7 order today, the delivery date has been extended by up to 59 weeks. This means the vehicle cannot be delivered until the second half of 2026. Xiaomi, however, has taken action to overcome this challenge.

A large-scale recruitment process for Phase Two production facilities began in early July. The company’s goal is to rapidly reach a production capacity level that can meet the increasing demand. However, it seems impossible to fulfill orders without increasing production in the short term. The coming period will determine whether Xiaomi can meet this sudden surge in demand or if the intensity will lead to quality issues.

What Does the Xiaomi YU7 Offer?

The YU7 is Xiaomi’s second electric model after the SU7 and the brand’s first serious step into the SUV segment. The base version, equipped with a 96.3 kWh battery offering 835 km range according to CLTC standards, was launched with a starting price of 253,500 yuan (approximately €29,900). The Pro version, with a dual-motor AWD system, is priced at 279,900 yuan (€32,900) and offers 770 km range. The top-tier Max version has 508 kW of power and 760 km range, priced at 329,900 yuan (€38,800).

The YU7’s aggressive pricing is putting pressure not only on the Tesla Model Y but also on Chinese competitors such as the BYD Sealion 07, Zeekr 7X, Onvo L60, and Xpeng G7. The model’s design is likened to the Ferrari Purosangue by some. The interior features a 16.1-inch large screen and Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem.
