A Florida man has been arrested after looking extra sketchy while walking to his ex-girlfriend’s house in the middle of the night. Turns out he was armed! And upon being detained, the 20-year-old admitted to police that he’s been going over and watching her sleep without her knowledge for MONTHS!!!
This past Sunday, at around 11:30 p.m. local time, a sheriff’s deputy was making the rounds in a neighborhood in Deltona, Florida. While driving around, he came across a man dressed in multiple layers of dark clothing, including a ski mask on top of his head. This is in Florida, we’ll remind you. The deputy says the young man was “attempting to conceal his face,” according to a press release later published by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
The man in question (pictured above in both police body cam footage and his arrest mugshot) was later identified as 20-year-old Jalen Vallejos. When the deputy asked why he was out there with a ski mask and gloves, Jalen said he was “just taking a walk,” and it was “kind of cold out.” (It was not.) Then, when asked if he was carrying anything else by the deputy, Jalen handed over his wallet and… a knife.

The deputy immediately read Vallejos his Miranda rights, and then discovered in the young man’s pockets that he had a lock pick. Deputies had recently been investigating a rash of car thefts in the area, so they figured that’s what Jalen was doing. But it wasn’t!! When the officer asked Jalen what he was up to, the young man said:
“Going to my ex’s house. Just to watch her, sir. Break in, sir.”
WTF???
After admitting he doesn’t get along with his ex, Jalen also told cops he was “not sure” what his intentions were in going to her house to break in and “watch her.” However, after being placed in the cop car, he eventually did admit on camera that he could have used the knife he was carrying while at her house “for self-defense if her father came out.” Creepy…
The officer keyed in on that statement, and then asked:
“You wanted to break in and just watch her while she was sleeping?”
To which Jalen added:
“I’m not sure. I don’t break in, I just watch her from [outside].”
Sooo what was the lock pick for, then?! Well, according to Vallejos, he brought it with him in case the property’s outer fence was locked and he couldn’t get into the yard.
Oh, and not only THAT, he also told the officer that he first went over to watch his ex “a couple months ago.” And per the sheriff’s office press release, Vallejos later admitted to detectives that he had “been visiting his ex’s house and watching her sleep for six to eight months.” Uh, excuse us, WHAT?! Six to eight MONTHS???
Somehow, the body cam shocker didn’t end there. After Vallejos told cops that he was “afraid” there could have come a point where he would be physically violent with his ex, he admitted that he’d parked his dad’s truck nearby. Inside, according to the young man, was a sledgehammer. When the officer asked why it was in there, Vallejos said he was “probably gonna use it” either on the front door of the home, or “in self-defense.” Right…
Per the sheriff’s office, deputies did indeed find a sledgehammer inside the truck. They also found a backpack that had duct tape, wire cutters, and spray paint. When confronted with that finding, Vallejos allegedly admitted to cops that he had vandalized his ex’s home back in April.
When deputies contacted the ex-girlfriend, she told them she and Jalen had indeed broken up about six months ago after being involved in a two-year relationship. She also claimed he kept calling and showing up at her home uninvited after being told to stay away. Something tells us she had no idea how worried she should have been!
Her father further confirmed the vandalism story, and told cops that Vallejos had been harassing them so long that the family was in fear for their lives. Ugh…
You can watch the entire body cam interaction (below):
Vallejos was eventually charged with aggravated stalking, attempted armed burglary, loitering or prowling, possession of burglary tools, and criminal mischief. As of Wednesday, per TooFab, he is still in jail without bond.
