Dubbed a rally against the “oligarchy,” the event quickly ignited Twitter with everything from enthusiasm to outright mockery.

The talking point for the day was doors were to open at nine, which frankly, is too early for a gathering of seventy-plus in prime position. But then again, Bernie has never been the guy to sleep in. In the tweet accompanying the RSVP were some tickets, with a hype video from the camp that was probably direct grainy footage of Bernie just yelling about billionaires. Nice touch!

The responses? Oh dear! Hype was real from some. Lia 🐾 screamed, ‘SANDERS-CORTEZ 2028 OH PERIOD,’ as if willing it into existence. Others were nonchalant. User called ‘StoppingSavages’ hurled an epithet at him: ‘Is this an indie movie?’ Well, that’s fair. That lineup sounds like a soundtrack for Wes Anderson.

Another group charged Birch with being the oligarch. AW3 said, ‘You ARE oligarchs,’ and MAGA DAD 🇺🇸 was, ‘Bet you both take private jets to fight oligarchy 🤦🏻♂️.’ Ouch. That almost made Neil Young look bad-for GONZO, who noted the irony of Young performing after his whole Spotify boycott drama. ‘Is that Neil Young of fighting corporate music Spotify because they carry white supremacist Nazi, Joe Rogan? Then secretly returned after pulling his music initially.’ Whoa!

Then, you had some people confused. One such query, posed by Kari McM.A.G.A. 🇺🇸, read, ‘Concerts fight Oligarchy?’ Fair question, really. Cornhole wanted clarification: ‘Who the hell is this oligarchy and what does “fighting” it involve?’ Bernie assumes the choice of mittens for the inauguration!

The haters then came. ‘Your time has gone. It was stolen,’ Pale Blue Dot said, wherein Bernie’s message is largely, he thinks, ‘just word salad.’ To which JPCK were like: ‘Did not know you two represented CA? A Holes.’ And then TrumpTroll47 went full caps with ‘WHICH BILLIONAIRE IS PAYING FOR THIS ALL BERNIE???’

But some were not roasting him. Harriope cheered, ‘Yes fight against war industry, warlords, against bad medicine industry, bad real estate people.’ Meanwhile, Binh Cao was stoked: ‘finally a coachella for me.’

The strongest reply? Armen Beeman went off on Biden’s health and ‘Stalin’s Chickens,’ filled with conspiracies. We’re not even going to start unpacking that one.

Depending on who you ask, either the rally is the next great moment of revolution or just a glorified jam session for the old folks. Either way, Twitter had a field day.
