Plug devices into power strips and turn off power strips when you’re not home or when you’re sleeping.
Use more energy efficient lightbulbs in all your lights and lamps.
When it’s time to replace an electrical appliance, look for one that’s energy saving — there might even be a tax deduction for this!
Plug in certain appliances only when you use them (like the coffee pot and toaster).
Line dry your laundry on sunny days (this will save money whether you have a gas or electric dryer).
Borrow or buy a Kilowatt meter to test which appliances and devices use the most electricity and unplug them when not in use.
Use a timer with a power strip to turn it on and off without needing to remember!
Keep your home a few degrees cooler in the winter and a few degrees warmer in the summer. (Add layers in the winter and wear lightweight clothing in the summer!)
Use heavy curtains and keep them drawn in the summer to keep extra heat from the sun out.
Close doors and vents to rooms you don’t use.
Use natural sunlight as much as possible (instead of turning lights on).
Wake up and go to bed with the sun to conserve using extra electricity.
