Alan Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher in Season 3 of the hit show Reacher. But, he’ll once again be joined by his long-time colleague Frances Neagley, played by the implacable and brilliant Maria Sten. A fan-favorite character, who originated in the 2007 Lee Child book Bad Luck and Trouble, Sten’s version of Neagley is arguably a way bigger deal in the TV show than she was in the books. And now, her highly-anticipated spinoff show is coming very, very soon.
Ahead of Reacher Season 3, Men’s Journal caught up with the cast of the show, including Maria Sten, where she delivered some very good news. The Frances Neagley spinoff series is filming. Right now.
“We start filming tomorrow. Literally tomorrow,” Sten tells Men’s Journal. “We are stuck in a snowstorm at the moment, but we’re going to just shoot right through it because that’s what we do in this franchise.”
Announced in October 2024, the as-yet-untitled series (likely to be called Neagley) will focus on Sten’s Reacher character as she solves her own investigations.
“When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell-bent on justice,” read the series description, as reported by Deadline last year. “Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”

The spinoff show is expected to feature Ritchson reprising his role as Reacher as a guest star, a fact which the duo alluded to in our interview, though didn’t outright confirm.
Sten’s take on Neagley has grown much bigger than her role in the books. Even though Neagley didn’t appear in the novel Persuader—upon which Season 3 is based—she’s very much in this season, and integral to the overall new storyline. And, Sten indicates that the franchise is set to expand with more new adventures for Neagley, all of which don’t rely on the books.
“It’s just whatever we’ve already established,” Sten says. “We don’t have [additional] source material for Neagley. What we’re doing is brand new and original.”
Reacher Season 3 hits Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, February 20.
