The Senate has voted 52 to 48 to confirm President Donald Trump’s pick of Tulsi Gabbard as the director of National Intelligence. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was the only Republican to vote alongside the Democrats to oppose Gabbard’s confirmation.
Gabbard was a Democrat until 2024, when she switched to the Republican party. She is a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard, deployed twice to the Middle East, and she ran for US president in 2020.
The office of the director of National Intelligence oversees and coordinates the work of 18 intelligence agencies.
