Liam Payne’s girlfriend is defending giving an interview about his tragic passing.
When her conversation with The Sun dropped on Wednesday, Kate Cassidy took to Instagram Stories to explain why she decided to speak out about the fatal fall in Buenos Aires now. Obviously, this is still one of the most “heartbreaking” times of her life — so it wasn’t an easy decision.

However, the 25-year-old social media personality felt she should “share insight” into her relationship with Liam after receiving so many messages from fans looking for answers:
“The past few months have been truly heartbreaking. I keep hoping I’ll wake up and this was all just a bad dream. Most days I feel numb and broken. The weight of it all feels unbearable. However, after receiving thousands of messages from Liam’s fans seeking clarity during this devastating time, I wanted to share insight into the relationship with the love of my life.”
She says she hopes everyone will be compassionate and “understanding” — clearly they have not always been toward her if she’s explaining pre-emptively. Kate continued:
“This is my first ever interview while I navigate the pain of losing Liam, so please bear with me as I share my experience, which I hope will be received with compassion and understanding. Thank you so much for your kindness and support. It means more than I can put into words.”
Hopefully, no one will send her hate for sharing her side of the story. Check out the statement (below):
As previously reported, Kate talked to The Sun about her final moments with Liam in Argentina. You may recall that she was with him in October but traveled back home to the United States shortly before the former One Direction member fell from the fourth-story balcony of his hotel and died. Kate explained to the outlet that she returned home to look after their dog Nala — which makes perfect sense, they’d been gone so long. But of course if she’d had any inkling what would happen, she “would never have left Argentina.” According to Kate, Liam was “so happy” and “in such a good headspace” when she left the country, which is why it is so hard for her to “believe the way things truly ended.”
That wasn’t all she had to say. The influencer also shared the final text message she sent Liam. Once she got back to their place in the States, Kate set up some decorations for Halloween and texted the 31-year-old singer:
“I can’t wait for you to get home and see the house.”
Liam never got to see the decorations, though. Heartbreaking…
