Over the last ten years, there have been a few wartime films that have captivated moviegoers. Take, for example, the critically acclaimed movies Hacksaw Ridge, The Oupost, and All Quiet on the Western Front. Each of them proved to be big wins with the critics, and viewers couldn’t give them enough applause. That being said, there’s one movie that was released in 2026 that has proven to be one of the best wartime dramas in the last ten years, despite its modest performance at the box office. And guess what, it’s now streaming on Peacock. So what’s the movie, and why is it being held in high regard?

Released on May 29, 2026, in the United States, Pressure is based on the true events leading up to the infamous D-Day invasion in Normandy, France, that turned the tide for Allied Forces in World War II. Prior to the invasion, bad weather put the plans for it in question, and it was left to then General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser) and RAF Group Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott) to make the difficult decision between choosing victory or possibly allowing the Nazi’s grow in power. Take a look at the official synopsis and trailer below:
“In the tense 72 hours before D-Day, and the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, Pressure follows General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Captain James Stagg as they face an impossible choice—launch the largest and most dangerous seaborne invasion in history or risk losing the war altogether.”
‘Pressure” Is Certified Fresh and Moviegoers Love It Even More
Both critics and your “average” moviegoer seem to love Pressure. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film is Certified Fresh with a Tomatometer score of 87%, and more impressively, it has a Popcornmeter score of 95% (which is the score from fans). That Popcornmeter score is actually higher than any of the other movies previously mentioned. Heck, the score is even higher than that of Oppenheimer.
Back to the critics. NPR’s Daniel Jonah Wolpert stated, “For all the prior cinematic depictions of storming bunkers and camaraderie under fire, Pressure offers us the quiet heroism of rational restraint in the figure of James Stagg, who weathered his inner storms and bore the courage to be disliked.”
Bilge Ebiri of Vulture wrote, “The beauty of Pressure is that it gives us the contemplative space to think beyond the mere borders of this specific historical event, which is the ultimate aim of most good war movies.” Also, Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chroniclenoted, “Fraser captures something essential about Eisenhower almost immediately.”
Again, Pressure is now available to stream on Peacock. You’ll need a subscription to watch it.
