House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5 is a slower burn than the rest of the season, but it sets the stage for another battle — and a few uncomfortable interactions between characters as well. The Game of Thrones spinoff is now building toward its Season 3 finale, and there’s still a lot to contend with before this outing is through. With any luck, House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 will answer some of our biggest questions ahead of the looming climax. SPOILERS ahead for House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5.
Going into Episode 6, Rhaenyra’s grip on King’s Landing remains tenuous. The situation with the gold cloaks isn’t helping, and the latest violence against the gold cloaks should create further problems for the queen. She’s not the only one who finds herself in a bind. Aegon and Larys are still making their way to Essos, but the return of Tyland Lannister may set a new plan in motion for the pair. Aemond doesn’t know where Vhagar is and is still dealing with his wound at Harrenhal. And Alicent and Helaena are trapped in a dark passage, the only hope of escape likely to give away their secret. Criston Cole’s also facing near-certain death, so there’s a lot that could happen on Sunday. Here’s what we’re hoping the newest episode will answer.
Will Rhaenyra Learn About Helaena’s Pregnancy?
Ollie Upton/HBO
We know from HBO’s preview for House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 that Alicent and Helaena won’t be stuck in the hidden passageway they’re left in forever…but whoever frees them is likely to have questions. Their escape will draw attention, and Mysaria already knows the truth. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before Rhaenyra learns of Helaena’s pregnancy, and that raises questions about what she’ll do. The child could be a threat to her throne, but Helaena never involves herself in such squabbles. Daemon will undoubtedly advise killing her. However, Rhaenyra repeatedly tries to show mercy. Only time will tell which way she leans, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried for Helaena.
Will Ser Criston Cole Die in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3, Episode 6?

Theo Whiteman/HBO
Criston Cole seems determined to die in battle in House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5, and he may just get his wish in this week’s chapter. Criston, Gwayne, and the Green forces meet numerous obstacles in “Unbowed and Unbent.” After they stumble upon multiple traps and blockages — and realize the enemy is also on the path ahead — Gwayne wishes to retreat. However, Criston insists on going forward, knowing that doing so will seal his fate. He gives a speech about not wanting to serve anymore, and it seems he’s prepared to lay down his life for that. Gwayne leaves him behind, realizing it’s a mission destined for failure. Whether Criston actually die in House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 6 remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be unexpected.
How Will Rhaenyra & Daemon Respond to the Latest Gold Cloak Murders?

Ollie Upton/HBO
House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5 ends with the most brutal slaughter of the gold cloaks yet, which is used to send a message to Rhaenyra: “A Feast for Traitors.” The series doesn’t outright tell us who’s responsible for these deaths, but it seems likely that Ormund Hightower is behind it. He talks about proving Rhaenyra is unfit to rule in the preview for Episode 6. This would be one means of accomplishing that, especially as the gold cloaks are such a big reason she’s able to control King’s Landing. And even if it’s not Ormund, Rhaenyra and Daemon seem likely to think that it is. They’ll be tasked with deciding how to answer this message in Episode 6, and I have a feeling they may not agree on the best response. Daemon seems eager to burn Tumbleton. Whether Rhaenyra will go along with that is hard to say.
