If you’re starting a new playthrough and have sided with the splinter faction of Alvar, you might be wondering which are the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era. Much like the Grove Faction, Schism is attuned with nature, but not in a way we’d imagined. They are one with water and do so by making use of ancient Vori Rites.
On the battlefield, they are ruthless, making use of Magic to reanimate their dead allies, who stay with them even after the battle ends. If you thought playing as the Necropolis Faction was macabre, the Schism is here to steal the spotlight. That said, here’s a rundown on the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era.
Note: The list of best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era mentioned in the article will range from Tier-1 to Tier-7 in ascending order.
5 Best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era, ranked
1) Ferocious Ra’Shoth

Despite being Tier-1, the Ferocious Ra’Shoth is still one of the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era. Given its stats and other aspects, one could argue that it would outperform other Tier-1 units with ease, such as Necropolis’ Skeleton Archers. It has one Passive Trait and one Active Ability that truly make it worth its weight in Gold. They are:
“Sweeping Strike: Deals damage to the target and two adjacent hexes to its side.”Summoning Rite: Once per battle, summons a stack of Ferocious Ra’Shoth on a friendly corpse’s hex. Has 50% of the corpse’s original stack and no more units than the Ferocious Ra’Shoth’s amount. These creatures are permanent and remain after battle.”

Sweeping Strike is going to allow you to use the Ferocious Ra’Shoth to take out targets clumped together. While it may not be enough to deliver a death blow, it will inflict a lot of damage. Summoning Rite can be used to reanimate dead units and bring them back into the fray. They’ll join your army as well once the battle ends, allowing you to maintain decent numbers.
2) Binder

Binder is quite easily one of the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era, owing to their Long Reach. For a Tier-2 unit, they are exceptionally good at what they do. Although they don’t have Passive Traits, they do have two very powerful Active Abilities that can be activated using Focus Charge. Here’s what they do:
“Glance at the Abyss: Curses the enemy target. Cursed targets take 2 pure damage per Cultist. Effect is stackable. Lasts 2 rounds. “Abyssal Tendril: Deals 2 damage per Binder to any enemy and removes one of their counterattack charges. ”

If you can field Binders in Abaucne, Glance at the Abyss will be able to shred large stacks of high-tier units with ease. While two (2) pure damage may not seem like a lot, if you have, let’s say, 100 Binders, that’s 200 damage every turn, and it’s stackable as well. Abyssal Tendril does something similar, but is more situational.
3) Unthinkable Shoth

Unthinkable Shoth, Tier4, is one of the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era. It has one very powerful Passive Trait that helps shut down the enemy unit in combat. If you have the Focus Charge to spare, you can make use of its Active Abilities as well. Here’s what to expect:
“Frost: Prevents the target from gaining focusSummoning Rite: Once per battle, summons a stack of Unthinkable Shoth on a friendly corpse’s hex. Has 50% of the corpse’s original stack and no more units than the caster’s amount. These creatures are permanent and remain after battle. Black Ice Shard: Deals 200% basic attack damage as pure damage to the target. Does not end turn.”

When going up against a unit that has powerful abilities, like the Grove’s Mist Qilin, you’ll be able to slow down its combat capabilities by using Frost. If you need to deal a lot of damage in a single instance, you have Black Ice Shard. With 200 pure damage, that’s enough to inflict severe hit-point loss to low-tier stacks.
4) Bewitcher

The Bewitcher is one of the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era owing to the plethora of Passive Traits and Active Abiilies it brings to the battlefield. When fighting them, Spells will cost more Mana, draining the enemy’s reserve quickly. Here’s what to expect from it’s Passive Traits:
“Nimbleness: Can perform a ranged attack even if adjacent to an enemy.Earn Your Magic, Dear II: Enemy spells cost +2 mana. The effect doesn’t stack. Only the strongest one is active.Duelist: No melee penalty.
Earn Your Magic, Dear II is the Passive Trait that shuts down the use of enemy Spells by makign them expensive. The other two are also good, but this is by far the best reason to get this unit. It also has two Active Abilites that allow it shutdown the enemy from earning Foucs. Here’s what to expect:
“Flog Idle Mind: Deal 25 Pure Damage per Focus Charge on the target.Bewitch Into Passivity: Prevents all enemies from gaining focus from any source until the end of next round.”
Bewitch Into Passivity shuts down the entire battlfield and stops all enemy units from gaing Focus until the end of the next round. This will give you a lot of breathing space and hamper the enemy from using their abilites. When playing against a real opponnet, Bewitcher will be the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era.
5) Abyssal Overseer

Abyssal Overseer is (tendrils down) one of the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era. It is an apex preadtor and going toe-to-toe with this behemoth will not end well. With 250 Health and 40 Attack, it can take on the toughest units and live to tell the tale. It has two Passive Traits; they are:
“Area Strike: Deals Damage to the target and all hexes around it. Additional targets take —50% Damage.Pure Resistance: Immune to all magic damage.”
Although Area Strike is perhaps the more attarctive perk, Pure Resistance is going to be your saving grace. It will allow the Abyssal Overseer to walk unimpeded by Magic on the battlefield. Not to be outdown by static perks, it also has three Active Abiliites. Here’s what they offer:
“Summoning Rite: Once per battle, summons a stack of Abyssal Overseers on a friendly corpse’s hex. Has 50% of the corpse’s original stack and no more units than the Abyssal Overseer’s amount. These creatures are permanent and remain after battle. Will of the Abyss: Allows this unit to take 1 more action immediately after its first action. Does not end turn. Moment of Insanity: Makes an enemy unit attack a random target. Does not affect Embodiments or Constructs. Negative Effect.”

Will of the Abyss is by far the stronest abilibty this unit has up its sleeve. Being able to have one more action in the same turn, especailly as a Tier-7 unit is enough to level the playing field manifold. Summoning Rite and Moment of Insanity are great acomcpany abilites as well.
That’s everything you need to know about the best Schism units in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era. Keep in mind that the composition of your army may vary from the aforementioned list based on your playstyle or the strategy you want/need to implement.
