Leeds United could be about to lose one of their summer signings in the January transfer window after he reportedly instructed his agent to find a move.
£45,000-a-week Leeds player wants Elland Road exit
Daniel Farke is currently in dreamland at Elland Road. The German has gone from facing the sack to more secure than ever at Leeds, having guided his side to as many as eight points clear of the dropzone just after the halfway mark.
Even in Wednesday’s 4-3 defeat against Newcastle United, there was plenty to admire. This wasn’t the promoted teams of old. Those that have stepped back and eventually gone out with a whimper. This was a Leeds side capable of hurting the Magpies and a side unfortunate not to come away with all three points in one of the games of the season.
But the Whites must not stop there. The January transfer window represents an ideal opportunity to race towards Premier League survival without any last-minute concerns.
To that end, it looks as though the 49ers are ready to back Leeds if the right opportunity presents itself. Recent reports have name-dropped the likes of Danilho Doekhi and Callum Wilson, for example, who would improve Farke’s squad depth.
Doekhi could particularly be one to watch. The towering Union Berlin defender would be an ideal addition now that Leeds use a back three system. Joe Rodon looked out on his feet against Newcastle and has had his injury problems this season, so finding depth behind the Welshman should be a priority.
It’s the type of depth that Sebastiaan Bornauw may not be providing for much longer, either. According to Bild, as relayed by Sport Witness, Bornauw now wants to leave Leeds this month and has instructed his agent to find an exit route out of Elland Road amid interest from the Bundesliga.
Why Bornauw is still important for Leeds
On paper, some may see Bornauw as disposable at Elland Road. The reality is that couldn’t be further from the truth, however. Despite finding himself out-of-favour for much of the campaign, the summer arrival did receive an opportunity during Rodon’s spell on the sidelines and that shows just how quickly things can change.
The £45,000-a-week man still has a place in Yorkshire and Farke’s verdict on potential exits at the end of last year suggests that he won’t be letting anyone leave anytime soon.

Bigger talent than Calvert-Lewin: Leeds hold talks to sign “incredible” CF
Leeds United have held talks over a statement January move for this exciting attacker.
The German told reporters: “I don’t believe with working with a big group because it’s important for togetherness, unity and spirit. We can perhaps improve our group a bit more, but no one close to the first team group is to leave.”
If Leeds were to sign an additional central defender, then Bornauw could be in line for an exit. Until then, it seems unlikely that those at Elland Road will sanction his exit less than a year after he arrived for around £5m.
As already shown this season, all it takes is one injury and the defender could get his chance to impress Farke.
