Daniel Farke said nobody at Leeds United was “dancing on the table” after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Brentford, but both he and Keith Andrews were content with a point.

Neither team created a single Opta-defined ‘big chance’ in their draw at Elland Road, with the sides amassing 1.0 expected goals (xG) between them (0.54 for Leeds, 0.46 for Brentford).

Leeds’ best opportunity was a wayward header from Pascal Struijk in the second half, while Mathias Jensen hit the side netting from Brentford’s clearest chance.

While Leeds now sit four points clear of 18th-placed West Ham, who visit Aston Villa on Sunday, they have gone six Premier League games without a win (D2 L4) and four without a goal.

But Farke admitted in his post-match interview with Sky Sports that Leeds do not always have the quality to take the game to teams, and must instead focus on being solid.

“After a draw, we’re not dancing on the table, that’s for sure,” he said. “But I just have compliments for my players. You could see today why Brentford are seventh.

“There are few teams that can sit with our physicality here. They have quality in attack as well. It was a complicated game, but it was important not to run into counter-attacks and lose this game.

“It’s also three in a row without conceding and that’s quite important. We are not a side who cut opponents to pieces due to individual quality.

“We have to be honest, we have to bring our flexibility and our physicality, and our tactical flexibility. Overall, this is how you have to behave in a relegation battle: be rock solid and show a good mentality. It’s a small step forward.”

The result might be seen as an opportunity missed for Brentford, who could have gone one point behind Liverpool and level with Chelsea in the Premier League table, after disappointing defeats for both of those teams earlier on Saturday.

But Andrews did not agree with that assessment, telling BBC Sport: “It’s a good point. You come into a place where they are pitching this as a massive game in their quest to do what they need to do.

“We have our own quest and all I was feeling as I was watching was immense pride in what the players do consistently, taking every challenge on in the right manner.

“We have done unbelievably well to get where we are in the league. We deserve to be where we are, and it’ll take a mammoth effort to stay there.

“Everything we can give, we will give, like the players do all the time. The intentions are always good from our players. They are always positive, embrace the occasion and challenge and I would expect it’ll lift them for the last seven games.”
