Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim conceded his side may “need the boos” after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to ASEAN All-Stars in the first fixture of their post-season tour.
After ending their disappointing Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, United flew to Malaysia to compete in a post-season tour.
But it was another underwhelming display by the Red Devils, with Maung Maung Lwin scoring the only goal at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Amorim’s team ended the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of just 1.16 from their 19 shots, only four of which were on target.
Following the full-time whistle, boos could be heard around the stadium with fans voicing their opinions after yet another poor display during Amorim’s tenure.
Amorim, though, believes it will do his players good to leave Kuala Lumpur with the sound of boos ringing in their ears.
“I feel always guilty. I said that in the last game. I’m always guilty of the performance of the team. No matter what. Since I’m here for the first day, I am guilty,” Amorim said.
“Then the boos from the fans is something that we need maybe because every game we lost in the Premier League, they were always there.
“So it’s like if the way of playing they see is not working, they will change the way they behave.
“But I felt then like we finish, walk away and, every time, the supporters were with us. Again, let’s wait for the next season.”

United finished 15th in the Premier League, on 42 points – accepted to be the club’s worst campaign since the 1973-74 relegation season.
They also suffered 20 defeats across all competitions, their most since losing 22 in 1973-74, with their last defeat coming in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
“Of course, we should perform better. We were slow and we have to have it in us to win every exercise in training and every game,” Amorim added.
“But the important thing is that we didn’t have any injuries. Some players were a risk but we wanted to respect all of the fans put all the players in the game.
“We should win these games but we move on.”
Amorim also kept his cards close to his chest over the future of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
It has been reported that the Red Devils have met the terms of Cunha’s £62.5million release clause after the Brazilian enjoyed a fine individual campaign.
Cunha scored 15 times in the Premier League last season, seven more than United’s top scorers in the competition (Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, both eight).
“You have to wait for that for the next season,” Amorim added.
“It’s something for you guys, also to take the opportunity as it’s your time, but I will not confirm anything. I have no news. We will see but there will be some changes.”
