As more cars with connectivity saturate the market, Mozilla product director Jen Caltrider joins Wealth! to discuss how drivers can best protect their privacy.
“I recommend these tips with the caveat that they’re not all going to protect all of your privacy. You just can’t do that with a car these days,” Caltrider warns. She explains that one of the first things drivers can do to protect their privacy is to avoid downloading associated apps. While this move means drivers will have to give up certain features, it will ultimately eliminate tracking.
For drivers renting cars, Caltrider stresses that data will not only be potentially shared with the rental car company, but future drivers. She recommends not connecting to bluetooth in a rental car, but if necessary, try to delete everything upon returning the car. “I think your best bet when you rent a car is just stay disconnected. Do it the old-fashioned way,” she says.
