Watch: Visiting 5 Favorite Sundance Film Festival Locations Video Blog
by Alex Billington January 26, 2026Source: YouTube
It’s time for a look back at 20 years of Sundance Film Festival memories and most importantly – the iconic locations in Park City, Utah. This is my 20th year attending & covering the Sundance Film Festival for FirstShowing and it’s also the final year that Sundance is taking place in Utah. For one final wrap up and nostalgic look back at all that has happened, I put together this fun video blog visiting 5 of my favorite spots around town. So many of these places have meant so much to me over the years, so many of these venues have been the place where history was made. Unforgettable world premieres in Eccles, midnight screenings at the Egyptian Theater, late night arguments at our blogger condo behind the Racquet Club, dinners at El Chubasco. I’m not usually a video guy, but to celebrate this final year in Park City, Utah I spent some time at each of these 5 iconic locations talking about my connection to them and their place in Sundance history. Watch below to see me geek out about this film festival in Utah and mention some of my fave films & more.

Yep, there I am, looking older than ever with gray hair nowadays. But that’s just what 20 years of covering film festivals does to you! My colleague Erik Davis recently posted a photo of a dinner we all had together back in 2009 (you can see another old photo in this blog post). You can still find my original reviews & blog posts from my first few years at Sundance: 2007, 2008, 2009 and so on. Sundance has been a major part of my life – for nearly half of my existence on this planet I’ve spent every January in the snowy mountains of Utah going from theater to theater, watching new indie films, discussing them with friends & strangers, and dancing through the streets every time I watched something amazing. But now Sundance is moving over to Colorado and this will be the last time I get to visit any of these venues and restaurants. They’ll still be there, of course, but the festival won’t be coming back again. So I had to pay tribute to them and remember them the only way I know how. Thanks for watching – I had a great time visiting all these places and filming this.
Special thanks to Cris Mertens for editing this. One minor correction: Nine Days premiered at Sundance 2020 not in 2021 (since they cancelled the in-person fest in 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic). Watch it.
