by Alex Billington March 17, 2025Source: YouTube
“We really didn’t pay attention to the MPAA rating at all.” The latest geek out on Adam Savage’s Tested channel is this examination of a classic horror movie proper – the iconic Necronomicon book from Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise. During another visit to Prop Store, Savage takes a closer look at a few actual screen used props created for Raimi’s Evil Dead II (1987). The video features prop designer & SFX veteran Tom Sullivan, who created special effects, creature make up, stop-motion animation, & props for the film. He shows him one of the original shooting scripts, a dagger prop, and the “Book of the Dead” Necronomicon featuring his own original drawings on many pages. “Adam meets the special effects artist and propmaker who actually designed and made the Book of the Dead for the original film and its sequel!” We also recently posted the video of Adam geeking out over the Mondoshawan costume suit for The Fifth Element. He’s such a huge movie geek and I love his enthusiasm for all of these tiny details in classic genre movies. View below.
Thanks to Twitter for the tip on this. Original intro from YouTube: “After admiring the art of Evil Dead II’s Necronomicon last year, Adam meets the special effects artist and propmaker who actually designed and made the Book of the Dead for the original film and its sequel! Tom Sullivan created the special effects, creature make up, stop-motion animation, and props for Sam Raimi’s classic horror film, and shows Adam the original Necronomicon which has survived all these years.” This video comes direct from Adam Savage’s Tested YouTube channel. Adam visits the UK main shop for the Propstore collectibles and movie props reseller. They also have thousands of other set pieces & costumes & props from many movies if you search their website. We’ve featured many other videos from Savage’s Tested channel such as making an original Blade Runner ID badge prop, and How a 100-Year-Old Animated Film is Restored, and also examining an original Mondoshawan outfit from The Fifth Element. Time to revisit Sam Raimi’s classic Evil Dead films?
